I began my career in education as a classroom aide in a preschool, where I first saw the joy that comes from helping young learners grow. Later, as an academic counselor in a high school, I met a student with severe dyslexia who couldn’t yet read. Working with the school psychologist and teachers to support that student completely changed the direction of my career — I wanted to understand how schools could better support all students to succeed.

That journey took me to the University of Oregon, where I earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology and a Master’s in Special Education. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside educators across the country — as a school psychologist, SPED interventionist, instructional coach, and university faculty member — to strengthen literacy instruction and build effective multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).

For more than a decade, I’ve partnered with schools, districts, and state leaders to bring evidence-based practices to life. I helped lead statewide MTSS professional development across 22 districts, co-wrote a $5 million grant for the Oregon Department of Education to expand MTSS coaching, and have collaborated on over $6 million in federally funded projects focused on early literacy, emerging multilingual student English instruction, explicit instruction, PBIS, and implementation science.

Collaborations with school district colleagues has led to research questions that I've been able to develop into projects awarded over 6 million dollars in federal grants to evaluate and develop effective tools with teachers and other partners. I've helped colleagues at state departments of education and regional education areas to receive over 7 million in grants to build state and region-wide coaching systems and install evidence-based literacy practices to improve outcomes for struggling students. I’m so proud of the work I’ve done to support state, district, and school teams to adopt and install MTSS for academics and PBIS.

But what keeps me inspired are the educators who show up every day, eager to make a difference for their students. Today, I focus on teaching, mentoring, and leading the MTSS Solutions Community — a place for educators to connect, learn, and grow together through programs like MTSS Strong Start and the MTSS Implementation Network.

I’d love to connect and learn more about your MTSS journey!
